Altruism
Altruism
Altruism is caring for other people’s problems without first considering your own interests. Altruism takes many forms from helping families financially or rescuing someone without regard for ones own safety. Altruism is helping others out without any ulterior selfish motives to gain something in return.
The movie “Hotel Rwanda” portrays the heroic acts of Paul Rusesabagina in the 1994 slaughtering of the Tutsis tribes in the African Country Rwanda. Paul’s story is very similar to the movie “Schindler’s List”. Paul being a wealthy hotel manager risks his life and the life of his family to hide Tutsis tribe members into his hotel. In these acts of courage, Paul is able to save 1,200 people from genocide. All the while he was protecting these people in this hotel, he could have decided to abandon these people for the sake of his own family, but he didn’t.
